Combating Global Warming
Combating
Global Warming
As
already pointed out in the previous blog entries, global warming is a serious problem
that we cannot afford to ignore. As such we support various initiatives which are
aimed at addressing the problem. Some of the ways that have been established to
have significant impact on global warming include fully abandoning burning of
fossil fuels and adopting renewable energy, adopting fuel efficient systems and
machines, planting of additional trees n large scale, stopping destruction of
forests, controlling commercial agriculture, and by reducing, recycling and
reusing of wastes.
Migrating from Fossil Fuels
If we truly wants to
combat global warming then we have to rapidly migrate from fossil fuels and adopt
renewable energy. Abandoning usage of fossil fuels will serve to greatly reduce
the amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) which we are emitting into the atmosphere.
With less GHGs in the atmosphere, the warming effect of these gases will be greatly
reduced and the rate at which the planet is warming up can be controlled.
Adopting Renewable Energy
Sources
Renewable
energy sources are different from fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural
gas on the basis that they cannot be exhausted and their use does not generate additional
greenhouse gases. They are thus environmentally friendly and safe to the
planet. These energy sources include solar energy, wind energy, hydro-power,
geothermal energy, and biomass energy. In order to use these energy sources,
the world will have to change the functionality of machines, vehicles, and
industry so that they can use energy from these sources. For instance vehicle manufacturers
must now consider changing the transmission system of their vehicles from
gasoline and petrol o electric transmission.
Planting More Trees
We also need to plant billions and billions of trees in
order to combat the problem of global warming. Planting more trees will serve
to ensure that lots of carbon are taken out of the atmosphere by these trees.
This can also be achieved not only by planting trees but also other types of
plants such as sea weeds, and bushes which can also absorb carbon out of the atmosphere
at high rates. The deduction of carbon in the atmosphere will serve to reduce
the rate of global warming and thus save us from the wrath of a warming planet.
Adopting Energy Efficient
Machines and System
In order to reduce energy generation which contribute GHGs
into the atmosphere, we need to adopt energy efficient machines and systems so
as to reduce our energy demand levels and consequently reduce energy production
process and the rate of GHG emissions.
Combating climate change
is thus a process that require effort of all of us. No one ca be left out. From
governments, businesses to the public, we all have a role to play in reducing activities
that contribute to global warming.
